Hi Guys…!
It’s me. Alfred. KING Alfred. How you all doin’ this week?
What’s your favorite food? Mine is chicken – make that F-R-I-E-D chicken! I love me some fried chicken.
Back in Rwanda, there wasn’t any cat food. So, Moms had the cook make me special food – namely sardines mixed with rice. I also got grilled meats and fish. Also, Moms would occassionally bring me home Rwandan meat balls, which is a local specialty. As a native of Rwanda, I loved them. I used to roll and chase a meat ball all over the house before deciding to eat it. Aunty Joyce would come home and step in one I had half eaten (and I would laugh…). But, when I got to Equatorial Guinea I didn’t like spicy meat any more. My mature cat stomach couldn’t take it any more.
In Rwanda, Moms had the cook make all these healthy foods for her with fresh Rwandan vegetables. She liked this a lot. So did my Aunties. They all swapped recipes. Then one day my Moms got tired of all that healthy food, and asked the cook to make something Amercian: fried chicken. And, the Rwandan cook knew exactly how to make it. Go figure.
And, guys, the day I tasted that fried chicken was my first taste of heaven (my second taste of heaven was living at the Marriott Residence Inn, of course…! Check out that post.) I could not believe such a wonderful food existed.
After I convinced Moms to let me eat fried chicken, no one in the house was allowed to eat fried chicken without giving me some. I could smell fried chicken cooking or someone eating it all the way from Moms’ upstairs bedroom. And, I would let out a huge yowl demanding that I be fed fried chicken i-m-m-e-d-i-a-t-e-l-y! I would even skype chat Aunty G asking her to bring me some fried chicken before she came to visit.
Then I went to the States. And, Moms gave me some American cat food. Now that was such an experience. I was addicted.
“Afred, what’s wrong with you? Why do you keep eating so much cat food? Why are you so addicted to this food?” Moms would asked. She was worried. I was, too. It was like this American cat food was a magic potion. Before coming to America, all I knew was regular food: grilled fish, sardines, rice, meat. When I had that cat food, everything changed. I was addicted.
Now Moms and I live in North Carolina, and occasionally Moms buys the local brand fried chicken: Bojangles. The other day Moms put some Bojangles fried chicken in my cat food bowl, and I just turned up my nose. I didn’t want it. I didn’t like it. I was now a cat food junky…
Moms and I wonder if the cat food manufacturers put something into cat food that makes cats magically addicted to it. What do you think, Guys? Help me out. Tell me your cat food and Bojangles/fried chicken experiences.
