Hi Guys!
Alfred here. KING Alfred. Guess what. Hurricane Irene hit the Homestead! Can you believe it?!
Yeah… Moms and me made it to the hotel in Durham Friday evening. I had a temper tanturm when Moms put me in my cat carrying case. I was furious and hissed and growled for like 10 minutes or so. Then I was sick in the car. I didn’t throw up. But, I got a fever. My whole entire body was on fire. And, I started panting, which is what cats do when they’re extremely stressed. Moms was going to pull over and let me take a break from all the motion. But, then I pulled myself together, and we made it to the hotel.
That Wyndham hotel wasn’t at all like the Marriott Residence Inn, my favorite hotel. (You can ready all about how I love me some Marritott Residence Inn in an earlier blog.) I didn’t like it. No class. So, I hid under the bed and didn’t come out almost the entire time we were there.
I didn’t have my own private space for my litter box like I do at the Marriott. So, I had to share the bathroom with my Moms.
I don’t know if I told you guys that on top of my anger management and separation anxeity issues I have litter box issues. I don’t like a smelly litter box. So, at the Wyndham I pulled down all the toilet paper to put in my litter box to cover up the smell. Moms got mad at me. But, she oughta know how I am.
When Cousin Lee called Moms and told her that the coast was clear and the electricity was back on, I was so excited. I voluntarily got into my carrying case to go home. Moms and I were off! Back to the country! Back to the homestead!
Going back home was pretty easy. I didn’t get sick or yowl as much as I did coming down. I guess I was happy to be going home. Guys, take a look at me in my Moms’ car. I look great – don’t I?
But, when we pulled up to the farmhouse my Moms and I were shocked by what we saw. A 100-year old oak tree had been uprooted by Hurricane Irene and had fallen on top of the old workhouse where tobacco was packed located just back of the house. This building was nearly 100 years old just like the tree. It was very sad – a part of the Homestead severely damaged, if not destroyed forever. While Moms was out inspecting the damage a Nash County official came out to assess the damage. He listed our homestead on the list that will be sent to the federal authorities to get relief from Hurricane Irene damage.
Guys! I hope you and yours stayed safe during the hurricane. I hope you have electricity and haven’t had too much flooding or property damage. Write me and let me know what happened to you during Hurricane Irene.
